The clouds got my attention. This painting is from a series of photographs I took while on a walk around Jackie Parker Park, past the off-leash dog park and the kids’ play park and around the lake. The clouds were incredible that day.
This painting of Jackie Parker Park is on a scrap piece of UART sanded pastel paper, a trial for me as I haven’t used UART paper before this. In all honesty, I don’t like this pastel paper and won’t use it again. It’s too thin for starters, although it took many layers of pastels very well. I just didn’t care for the feel of the paper.
I will try to get some Art Spectrum Black sanded pastel paper (the Paint Spot tried unsuccessfully to order some for me) but until I can get some to try, I will continue to use Sennelier lamp black to make a ground layer. I like that it forces me to use lighter colours and work my values from dark to light.
