New Word for 2015 and a “selfie” pastel self-portrait

I managed to finish my 2nd Annual New Year’s Eve self-portrait on time!  (At least, I’m sure it was still 2014 somewhere in the world by the time I signed it and took it off the easel!)   I haven’t (yet) been able to say I am doing a drawing or painting a day, or even that I have been working on a painting every day.  But I can do one self portrait every year!  I like the idea of seeing the year’s changes in my face through my art and my own hands, and especially since my birthday is so close to the end of the year

I chose my “Word for the Year” a couple of weeks ago.  Over the past couple of years, the words I’ve chosen (Perseverance and Persistence) have worked well for me, and I wanted my word for 2015 to follow them naturally, as well as to express my goals for the coming year.   With that in mind, the word I chose for 2015 is “Professional“.    During this year, I want to attend to my art as a professional: to show up for work every day, to put in the time and effort I need to give every painting I do my best, to explore opportunities and always, to continue learning and growing as an artist.

Thank you for reading!  Enjoy my art!

Happy New Year!  I wish you a Happy and Healthy 2015!

Thanks for the new portrait! In it you look confident and assured, and appear to be looking forward to the new year and new adventures as a professional artist! Good Luck and God bless!
